How to Access and Manage Service Categories in CookieConsent

A. Access Categories

Step 1: Open CookieConsent from the sidebar.

Step 2: Select a CMP configuration from the list.

Step 3: Click Service settings in the top navigation.

Step 4: Open the Categories sub-tab.


You will now see all categories linked to your CMP configuration.

B. Understand the Categories List

Each category shows:

  • Category name – Includes the number of services assigned to it

  • Description – Explains what the category covers

  • Edit icon (✏️) – Lets you edit the category name and description

Default categories typically include:

  • Hosting – Server access, logs, IP addresses, and infrastructure

  • Customer Interaction – Chat tools, support modules, personalization

  • Misc – Unclassified or general-purpose scripts

  • Social Media – Embedded content and platform integrations

C. Add a New Category

Step 1: Click + Add Category in the top-right corner.


Step 2: In the Create Category window, enter:

  • Category name

  • Description

  • (Optional) Mark the category as essential

If marked essential, services in this category do not require user consent.

Step 3: Click Add Category to save.

D. Edit an Existing Category

Step 1: Click the edit (pencil) icon next to a category.


Step 2: Update the name or description as needed.

Step 3: Save your changes.

You can also change whether a category is marked as essential.
